Degradable plastic bags

2020-03-20

From 2020 and onwards, we will pack all our frames in bags of biodegradable plastic.

The bioplastic decision was not difficult to make. The cost in terms of money is marginal. The profit for the environment is all the greater. The new bags are milky and not as transparent as regular plastic bags. To enhance the useability, we have also changed the sticker on the outside indicating the content clearer.

There are different types of bio-based plastics and not all of them are biodegradable. Our new plastic bags are made of, among other things, starch and are biodegradable. They should in principle be compostable, but we recommend that you either recycle them or throw them in the garbage bin for compostable garbage.

For plastics to be biodegradable, the material needs to be made so that microorganisms can easily break it down into biomass, carbon dioxide, metal, mineral salts, and water. Only certain types of plastics, such as starch and lactic acid plastics, meet these requirements. However, there are usually conditions required that can only be achieved in industrial composting, for example in the municipal facilities.

We hope you like our new bags!
